About Me

I graduated from Stellenbosch University in 1992 with a four-year bachelor’s degree in Primary Education, specialising in Art. During my teaching years I taught all subjects, including Art, from grade 4 to 7. I also taught Art to special needs classes and ran adult drawing and ceramics classes. When I started my family, I took a break from teaching and obtained my honours degree in Psychology. I then continued full-time studies for two years at Cornerstone Institute and graduated with B.Psych (Equivalent). This enabled me to register with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and open my practice as a professional registered counsellor.

Therapeutic Approaches

Gestalt Therapy

Holistic, focuses on the here-and-now. Exploration of how the past affects and influences one’s feelings in the present, rather than how one felt long ago. Used in conjunction with other therapies such as play, art, drama or body work. Useful in helping clients with self-esteem concerns, physical issues (e.g. migraines), self-awareness, anxiety, depression and relationship struggles.

SFT (Solution Focused Therapy)

Solution-building around future hopes related to current circumstances. Used to treat people of all ages and a wide range of issues including child behavioural problems and relationship problems. Can be used together with other therapeutic approaches.

Infant Mental Health

A relationship can exist between a parent’s negative or traumatic childhood experiences and their own parenting experience. This can cause much anxiety and distress for both parents and baby. Infant mental health offers a wide range of practices that pregnant couples, parents, caregivers and healthcare professionals should be aware of for early intervention during the first 1000 days (conception to about 2 years of age).
